39.847119 -84.083128Deceitfully represented and Resort-less!!!. My regular kennel closed and I was confronted in a short amount of time with the task of locating a new kennel. I came upon Barking Woods Pet Resort in the Yellow Pages and called. I was told he would have the run of the "farm because they did not have many dogs right now", which I knew there had to be some containment, but my one stipulation was that he not be caged and I was assured he would not be. He was dropped off in a small office and due to time constraints, I was not afforded the opportunity to inspect the premises. I inquired whether I could pick him up on Sunday, the day I was returning, and she explained that though this was not normal procedure, I could if I called first. My plane was delayed so my daughter called to pick him up instead. When she arrived, they entered a barn and was told to close the doors. The girl explained that she had been sick and had not been able to make it there yet! My dog is a large black Lab weighing an average of 100 lbs. and was in a 5' X 5' cage. He has an injury to his back leg where he can't be immobile for an extended period of time or he develops a painful limp. When the girl turned him loose, he ran to my daughter and the first thing she noticed was that he smelled "badly" and had a severe limp. He had to be assisted getting in the van. Secondly, when they returned home he drank water for five minutes continuously, which indicates what the girl said was true. I contacted Barking Woods and voiced my concerns also alerting them I needed his shot records. Shortly thereafter the owner contacted me and when I voiced the same concerns to her, she doubted whether that was true or not. She did not know for sure, but tried to put it back on me that I did not provide him with a blanket or something! I feel very badly that I left my dog there and he was exposed to any of these conditions. I would not recommend this kennel for boarding.
Unprofessional and certainly not a "Resort"!.
I brought my dog here to be boarded and I would not recommend this place. The owner informed us that the dogs are walked three times a day, and although I have no basis to dispute that, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he wasn't walked at all. When I came to pick up my dog I heard the owner yelling at the dogs in the backroom and smacking a chain against a cage. The place smelled like a port-a-potty too. If the dogs were walked as the owner informed us they were, then most of them should have been able to hold it for the 7 or 8 hours through the night. After receiving my dog he immediately used the bathroom as if he had held it for the entire time!
What upset me the most is that working with animals, as with babies, takes a compassionate person. Our pets are our babies essentially. The owner of this operation needs to learn that throwing a dog in a cage and cleaning the p00p the next day hardly justifies a "boarding" place and is disgustful & distasteful. Perhaps, if she actually spent time with the dogs and walked them a good 20 minutes twice a day they would do their 'business' and she wouldn't have to clean up so often. Maybe she might even understand these animals need care and love and take a different approach to operating her business and handling the animals. But based on what I saw from this place left a lasting impression on me and my stressed out dog...avoid this place at all costs!!!
