Blech...

I was in the Dayton area last month and this place was recommended to me for seafood. I was misled.
I kid you not- Captain D's or Long John Silver's has better food. No joke. The main difference is that you will pay a fraction the price and would need to bring your own alcohol at the fast food joints, but the service would be better. Sweeney's is evidence that the culinary scene in Ohio is completely dead, like the state itself.
I heard the owner inherited a chain of restaurants and ran them into the ground. From the horrible quality of food, the ignorant service and the decor which doesn't appear to have been updated since the late 70's or early 80's, this seems quite true.
Overall, this dive is a depressing waste of money. Avoid it at all costs.
- Pros: Plenty of Liquor
- Cons: They serve food
Great Service - Very good food - Great Prices - Not huge portions

We were recommended to Sweeney's and had a large group of ten with us when we visited on a Friday night. Service was good - not great. Food was excellant, although portions were not large. Matter of fact, of all the entree's the scallops seemed to be the smallest order. But I guess its better than everyone paying for huge portions and having too much food as most restaurants have today. There is money left over for appetizers or dessert. We ordered appetizers of lobster tails, crab cakes, etc that were all great. The bisque was to die for and I would recommended it to all. They also offer the option to add four shrimp (which were very large for $3.95) or other options such as lobster tail to an entree and I would recommend that big eaters do so. Not much atmosphere, but food was very good.
- Pros: Food, Prices, Service
- Cons: Ambience, Parking
Can't be a Restaurant When There's No Food

My Fiancee and I decided to try Sweeney's even after hearing mixed reviews from our friends and relatives. Unfortunately we had a hard time siding with those who had positive reviews. Our service was rather non-existant, everything we ordered they were out of, and the food we finally were served was quite under par. The food was very plain, however, if we had ordered the fried fish (which the menu seemed plentiful of), we may have had a more positive experience. All in all a very disappointing experience.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Inconvenient parking, poor service
